The Greening of Detroit is a nonprofit organization active in the environmental services sector, based in Detroit, Michigan. Its programs focus on increasing tree canopy and green spaces, expanding urban farming, and delivering education, training, and job opportunities to residents. Founded in 1989, the organization seeks to restore Detroit’s tree infrastructure and use land to improve quality of life while promoting environmental stewardship.

Its work engages community residents and local partners to activate vacant land—spanning more than 20 square miles—for trees, prairies, urban farms, and pocket parks. This approach aims to create economic value for neighborhoods while supporting ecological health and local capacity building. In January 2026, Sachse Construction partnered with Greening of Detroit to support a community tree planting near The James and Grace Lee Boggs School.
