The Hope Institute is a small nonprofit based in Birmingham, Alabama, focused on advancing character education in schools. As a 501(c)(3) organization in the Education Administration Programs field, it partners with Samford University's Orlean Beeson School of Education to bring best practices for developing good character to Alabama schools. The Hope Leadership Academy provides six day-long workshops plus on-site consulting to help school leaders design and implement character education initiatives. Its curriculum covers establishing a foundation for character education through core values, norms, and mission; understanding character development across cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dimensions; and aligning virtues with student growth. Participants engage with national leaders, focus on school culture, and build character development plans while networking with peers, with a recent development noting the appointment of Lydia Barnett as Program Coordinator in October 2021.
