The Impact Seat LLC was cofounded in 2015 by Dr. Teresa Nelson, a renowned expert in strategy and diverse teams, and Barbara Clarke, an economist and private equity investor in women-led companies. Over the years, The Impact Seat has worked with many large companies as well as performing arts organizations to develop strategies incorporating diversity, equity and inclusion. The Impact Seat LLC has also been a prominent supporter of companies led by women, especially women of color.

In 2023 the consulting practice led by Dr. Nelson spun off to form a new company dedicated to their DEI work. That new company is Diversity North Group.
In 2022 The Impact Seat Foundation was launched to support the mission to create a world in which women, particularly women of color succeed in business.
