Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, The Kettle Society is a nonprofit operating in the mental health care sector with a history spanning nearly five decades. It supports people facing mental illness, substance use, poverty, and homelessness by providing housing, employment, and community services intended to restore dignity and expand possibilities. The organization serves more than 6,000 vulnerable individuals each year and manages over 400 housing units that offer supportive housing, in addition to a mental health drop-in centre that provides meals daily. Its range of services includes advocacy, an ID bank, outreach to people experiencing homelessness, a women’s transition house, a health clinic, supported employment, and recovery support. In 2021, The Kettle Society partnered with Streetohome to open the Recovery Café in Vancouver, the first Recovery Café in Canada. In March 2024, long-time Executive Director Nancy Keough retired after 43 years with the organization, and a successor was announced.
