The Land Trust for Santa Barbara County, founded in 1985 and based in Santa Barbara, California, operates in the environmental services sector as a regional land conservation organization. It works with willing landowners, public and private grant agencies, and community groups to protect, restore, and manage open space, wildlife habitat, and agricultural land across Santa Barbara County. The organization engages in acquiring land and conservation easements through negotiation, donations, and purchases, and it develops conservation plans, restoration projects, and incentives for landowners to support these efforts. It also focuses on preserving, stewarding, and restoring wildlife habitats and watershed resources on protected lands, while offering education about ecology, agriculture, and conservation through programs at its preserves. To date, the Land Trust has protected over 58,650 acres and has completed or is underway on nearly twenty habitat restoration, open space, and trail projects. In January 2025, it formed a research partnership with Earth Economics to explore placing a monetary value on the region's natural landscapes.
