Based in Torrance, California, the institute supports a broad program of research with hundreds of investigators and staff, conducting hundreds of active studies and dozens of clinical trials annually across areas such as cancer, immunology, respiratory medicine, and cardiology, as well as translational genomics and advanced therapeutics. Its work is aimed at translating scientific findings into real-world health solutions and toward improving outcomes for patients, while also engaging in community health programs that promote health equity for underserved populations in Los Angeles County. The organization maintains a focus on education and community involvement, serving as a hub for innovation in biomedical science and the development of the next generation of scientific leaders. A notable recent development includes collaboration efforts and program activations in regenerative medicine and related partnerships announced in 2024–2025.
