The Mercury News is a mid-sized media organization based in San Jose, California, serving the Silicon Valley region and the broader San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose DMA, the nation's fifth-largest media market. Founded in 1851, the Pulitzer Prize-winning publication has established reach among a highly educated and affluent audience and centers its coverage on technology's impact and demographic change in the area. In addition to journalism, it offers a broad set of marketing resources, including targeted publications, direct and shared mail, and online channels, to support advertisers' outreach. The organization emphasizes accurate and fair reporting for readers in Silicon Valley and the global electronic community, aiming to reflect the community's changing demographics in coverage and hiring. In 2023, the Mercury News Group launched a defence and security network, marking a concrete expansion into a specialized reporting area.
