The Milo Foundation is a nonprofit organization in the civic and social sector that rescues adoptable dogs and cats from high-kill animal control shelters and places them in loving homes best suited to provide lifetime care. It also rehabilitates animals and offers sanctuary to those not suitable for adoption, and it educates the public about responsible pet guardianship, including spay and neuter. Based in Point Richmond, California, the organization places about 1,500 animals each year and maintains a sanctuary population around 250, with most animals sourced from euthanasia lists at shelters across the state. Having celebrated 30 years of operation and rescued more than 48,000 animals, the foundation relies on adopters, fosters, volunteers, and donors to sustain its work. In May 2019, JustFoodForDogs partnered with The Milo Foundation to provide whole-food meals to newly adopted animals.
