Founded in 1977 by Theodore I. Koskoff, The National Board of Trial Advocacy is a small nonprofit organization in the legal services sector, based in Wrentham, Massachusetts. It focuses on improving the quality of trial advocacy in U.S. courtrooms and helping consumers locate experienced trial lawyers. The organization is accredited by the American Bar Association to certify lawyers in several trial-law specialty areas, including civil trial law, criminal trial law, family trial law, civil pretrial practice law, and social security disability advocacy law. Certification through NBTA is voluntary and aimed at recognizing lawyers with substantial experience and specialized expertise. A notable governance development occurred in 2017 when Keith R. Clifford was named President-elect.
