The National Wild Turkey Federation is a non-profit organization focused on conserving the wild turkey and preserving hunting heritage. It is headquartered in Edgefield, South Carolina, having originated in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1973 before relocating. The organization coordinates a nationwide network of partners, sponsors, and grassroots members to advance wildlife management and habitat conservation. Across North America, its work has coincided with growth in wild turkey populations—from about 1.3 million at founding to more than 6.2 million today—and the protection of more than 23 million acres of wildlife habitat. It engages hunters and diverse communities through educational events that introduce youth, women, and people with disabilities to outdoor activities, while expanding access to hunting on public and private lands; in 2026 it announced partnerships with Ducks Unlimited, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, First Lite, and MeatEater to support conservation and hunting heritage.
