The Center for Automotive Research (CAR) at The Ohio State University’s College of Engineering is a leading research center in sustainable and safe mobility in the United States. CAR is known for its interdisciplinary emphasis on systems engineering, advanced and unique experimental facilities, collaboration with industry on product development projects, and a balance of government and privately sponsored research. The center’s research focuses on energy, safety and the environment and it offers state-of-the-art facilities for students, faculty, research staff and industry partners. CAR is dedicated to preparing the next generation of automotive leaders. It offers certificated programs via distance learning for professionals, designed to meet the industry’s demand for fast and focused training for engineers. By offering high quality, customized training, CAR equips practicing engineers with the knowledge they need to excel in the automotive, transportation, energy, and mobility industries. Additionally, CAR collaborates with multiple departments within the College of Engineering to offer students a graduate specialization in automotive systems engineering. The center also provides facilities and support for six automotive undergraduate student project teams. Under the direction of Giorgio Rizzoni, CAR involves a diverse group of visiting scholars, staff members, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as CAR-affiliated faculty, who carry out several million dollars’ worth of research projects annually.
