The Possibility Project is a nonprofit organization based in New York City that engages local teenagers in turning challenges in their lives and communities into constructive action. In collaboration with professional artists, the program runs four tracks designed to help youth build lasting relationships across differences, resolve conflicts without violence, participate in community initiatives, and develop leadership skills. Participants create an original full-length musical drawn from their own experiences and ideas for change, while also planning and executing community action projects on issues they care about. Since 2001, the project has served more than 1,500 teenagers from more than 100 schools, 18 foster care agencies, and 15 justice institutions across all five boroughs, produced 40 original musicals for about 65,000 audience members, and facilitated more than 85 youth-led community actions.
