The Sioux Chef is a Minneapolis-based organization focused on pre-contact Indigenous foods of North America. It operates a catering business featuring Dakota and Ojibwe flavors in Minnesota and runs the Tatanka Truck to extend its reach to the Twin Cities area and beyond. In 2021 it opened the Owamni restaurant, which earned the James Beard Foundation's Best New Restaurant award in 2022. In addition to its service operations, The Sioux Chef emphasizes education about Native American foods and their benefits for the public, especially Native communities. It launched the Indigenous Food Lab in Midtown Global Market in 2020 to advance culinary education around Indigenous foodways, and The Sioux Chef's Indigenous Kitchen won the 2018 James Beard Award for Best American Cookbook.
