The Sixth Form College Farnborough is one of Britain’s top sixth form colleges. It has sought to retain and build upon its reputation as a distinguished major provider of the highest quality academic and vocational education. The shared objective of all staff is to improve students’ achievements. We do this through engaging students in their subjects, seeking to inspire them to enjoy their studies in an atmosphere of mutual respect and support; above all, staff at the Sixth Form College like their students. The College offers nearly 60 A level titles and students can study them in any sensible combination, chosen with informed and unbiased advice and guidance. Results in recent years have been outstanding. The College subjects its examination performance to value-added external analysis by ALPSTM (A level Performance Systems) and the 2009 report stated: “Your 3-year value-added indicates outstanding overall performance from 2007 to 2009.” In addition the College offers a number of pre-A level (Level 2) courses in some vocational areas, and a very limited number of GCSEs. Central to the ethos of the College is pastoral support through a team of specialist Personal Tutors, all experienced and successful A level teachers, which has been judged by ofsted to be outstanding. There is strong participation in a wide range of enrichment activities. Students are involved in a variety of team and individual sports with College teams competing at county and national level; there is a rich tradition of performing arts using the facilities of the purpose-built Prospect Theatre, with strong music, dance and drama. Working with one of the College's Lead Tutors, the Student Association committee oversees a large number of clubs and societies, providing an important opportunity for leadership and team-work.
