The Tablet is a long-running Catholic weekly journal published in London, England. Founded in 1840, it covers religion, current affairs, politics, social issues, literature and the arts, with a particular focus on Roman Catholicism while maintaining an ecumenical outlook. It upholds the teachings of the Second Vatican Council and has been owned by The Tablet Trust, a registered charity, since 1976. Its pages have hosted writers and church figures ranging from Evelyn Waugh and Pope Benedict XVI (as Cardinal Ratzinger) to Pope Paul VI, as well as contemporary theologians and public intellectuals. The Tablet is the second-oldest weekly journal in Britain after The Spectator, and its editor is Brendan Walsh, who joined in 2011 as Literary Editor after a career in Catholic publishing and communications.
