The Union League of Philadelphia is a historic private hospitality club in Philadelphia, founded in 1862 as a patriotic society to support the Union and Lincoln's policies. It has hosted U.S. presidents and other dignitaries and has supported the American military in every conflict since the Civil War, reflecting its civic mission and its guiding motto Amor Patriae Ducit. The organization now serves a membership of more than four thousand leaders from various sectors in the Philadelphia region. The League's central building, the League House, occupies a full city block in Philadelphia's commercial and cultural district; completed in 1865, it is designed in French Renaissance style and has been listed on the National Historic Register since 1979. The Union League operates a unified nonprofit charity, the Union League Legacy Foundation, dedicated to historic preservation, education and scholarship in support of freedom and free enterprise. The group maintains multiple companion amenities and has expanded its footprint beyond Philadelphia, with recent activity including an office expansion in Joplin, Missouri in 2025.
