The University of Akron Research Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization incorporated in 1966 and designated by The University of Akron's Board of Trustees as the university's fundraising entity. It serves as the fundraising and donor-managed financial support channel for the University of Akron, receiving funds on the university's behalf, managing and investing them, and distributing them in accordance with donor wishes. The foundation enables support for students and faculty through funding for student financial aid, lectureships, professorships, chairs, instructional grants, equipment funds, and other programs, with the goal of helping the university become the leading public university in Northern Ohio. Governance is provided by a Board of Directors and special committees comprising business and professional leaders who oversee assets and strategic direction.
