Based in Baltimore, Maryland, The Upside Down Organization (UDO) was founded in 2007 to advance professional learning for child-serving professionals. It operates as the external training arm of The Children’s Guild, and is supported and staffed by the Guild's employees and other child-serving professionals. Through work in classrooms, group homes, foster homes, counseling centers in schools, and hundreds of homes across Maryland, UDO connects daily with children and youth across the academic and behavioral spectrum, pairing current research with practical application. Its clients are professionals who work with children and youth, and the organization seeks to strengthen their practice through high-quality professional development and responsive service. UDO emphasizes improving outcomes for children, youth, and families by equipping adults who support them. The program has expanded from a single part-time presenter offering two seminars in Maryland to a broader network—including four full-time staff, three part-time trainers, one certified organization, and 21 certified presenters—delivering 25 seminars across 43 states, as well as in Germany and Singapore.
