The Wilma Theater is a nonprofit performing arts organization based at 265 South Broad Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, employing 51–200 people. It began in 1973 as the Wilma Project and operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; in 1979 Blanka Zizka and Jiri Zizka became artists-in-residence and assumed artistic leadership, after which the company adopted the name The Wilma Theater. In 1996 the theater opened a new state-of-the-art 300-seat venue on The Avenue of the Arts. The organization programs premieres of new work and re-imaginings of modern classics, aiming to present a range of voices, viewpoints, and styles. The Wilma Theater has earned national and international attention and honors, including 77 Barrymore Awards since 1995, and was recognized with the 2024 Regional Theatre Tony Award.
