It reports on both domestic and international issues through its morning and evening editions, supported by three headquarters and regional bureaus across Japan and in major cities worldwide. The publication prints more than six million copies, a scale that positions it as the publication with the largest circulation globally. In addition to its daily newspaper, the group also publishes The Japan News, an English-language daily, and operates an English-language news website to share Japanese reporting with readers around the world.

Headquartered in Tokyo, in the Otemachi area of Chiyoda Ward, the company operates within the newspaper publishing industry as a leading national paper with a global reach through its English edition and online presence. It serves a broad readership that includes domestic audiences as well as international readers seeking coverage of Japan. In 2023, the Yomiuri Group launched Originator Profile, a project intended to strengthen the safety of news origins and advertising in the media ecosystem.
