The story of The Fire Center begins with three Fire Departments in Texas. Joe Reyes, a thirty year veteran of the military and a thirty year firefighter with the Houston Fire Department joined in a partnership with Joe Hidrogo, an emergency management officer with the Austin Fire Department to form a fire department distribution company named Fuego International, LLC, in 2001. Shane Highsmith, a 10 year veteran of the military and a 10 year firefighter with the Pflugerville Fire Department was the resident PPE repair specialist for the Pflugerville Fire Dept. Shane is a veteran of the Gulf War. Shane, who is an outstanding leather craftsman, and who had a knack for repairing PPE developed a company called Champion Sewing and Leather while still working with Pflugerville. Shane began serving as a PPE repair specialist not only within Pflugerville FD but with other departments in Central Texas. When NFPA 1851 was implemented in Texas in 2008 it was clear that there would be a significant demand for cleaning, inspection, alteration, and repair services. The Joe’s and Shane got together and decided it was best to serve the NPFA 1851 needs through an independent company, The Fire Center. We look forward to serving you.
