Tibetan Aid Project operates in the fundraising sector with a mission to preserve Tibet’s cultural and spiritual heritage for Tibetans and humanity. Founded in 1969 by Tarthang Tulku, the organization is based in Berkeley, California, and began by providing humanitarian aid to exiled Tibetans before shifting toward restoring monasteries and educational institutions. Since 1989 its primary program has been printing and distributing sacred materials essential to heritage preservation, with funds supporting production, shipment, and distribution at the World Peace Ceremony in Bodh Gaya, India. Its activities serve Tibetan refugees and communities inside and outside Tibet by providing access to sacred texts, art prints, and prayer wheels distributed free of charge. Together with its sister organizations, the project has distributed more than 3 million texts, 4.3 million sacred art prints, and 123,000 prayer wheels, one of the largest free book distributions in history.
