Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) is a government department based in Wellington, in the Wellington Region of New Zealand, that specializes in geographic information. Its data and expertise underpin New Zealand’s economy and the wellbeing of communities by enabling government, business and communities to make a wide range of decisions with meaningful impact. The agency also manages land and property for the country, including the property survey and title system that underpins land ownership and development. LINZ aims to broaden the use of its data for vital decisions such as rebuilding a city, planning for sea level rise, and managing the high country. Its workforce draws on expertise across geospatial science, hydrography, topography, property law, valuation, surveying, data analytics, iwi relations, public land management, policy and corporate functions. A recent development is the May 2026 release of high-resolution coastal LiDAR point cloud data to expand the available geospatial information.
