Tommy Boy Music is a United States–based independent record label founded in New York City in 1981, with a long-running focus on Hip Hop and Electronic music. It helped launch the careers of Afrika Bambaataa, Queen Latifah, House of Pain, De La Soul, and Naughty By Nature, and today its roster includes Abhi the Nomad, Tef Poe, Jaeo Draftpick, Saladin, and Marcos Carnaval. The label played a pivotal role in bringing electronic dance music toward mainstream audiences in the late 1980s through releases by LFO, Coldcut, and 808 State, and it contributed to renewed Top 40 radio opportunities for DJs with Bob Sinclar’s World Hold On in 2006. It has supported the development of Latin Freestyle and Latin Hip Hop through catalog releases from TKA, K7, and Information Society, and licenses its logo to designers and retailers worldwide, including Maharishi and Urban Outfitters. In September 2023, Merlin Network announced the acquisition of Tommy Boy, a label that operates under Reservoir Media.
