Toyota of Stamford was an American Dream established in 1969 by John F. McKale. He was raised in Vermont and had a very modest upbringing. A World War II veteran, he came back to the states to start a family and career in Connecticut with his wife and two sons. His wife's first generation Sicilian family grew up in Stamford with her six sisters. Their home was where Toyota of Stamford's showroom stands today.

In 1969 John McKale took what was seen, at the time, as a very big risk and purchased one of the first Toyota franchises in the United States. The rest is history. Toyota of Stamford has been family owned and operated for close to 50 years and the current CEO and president is William J. McKale, John's oldest son, along with William's son Duncan W. McKale. Toyota of Stamford has enjoyed being a patron of Stamford and Fairfield County for decades. They have had the opportunity to partner with many local charities and events over the years.
