Translation Commons is a nonprofit public charity based in Cupertino, California, operating in the translation and localization sector. It seeks to make languages digitally renderable through a reliable and scalable method, enabling unrepresented languages to participate in global communications and access educational, cultural, and economic opportunities. The organization develops a methodology accessible to non-technical users, supported by a volunteer network across language specializations and an expanding educational network of universities and schools, and it positions itself as a Language Technology partner aligned with global connectivity objectives and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It maintains social-civil society partnerships with initiatives like the International Year of Indigenous Languages and with UNESCO, aligning with the International Decade of Indigenous Languages action plan for 2022-2032. Its Global Language Digitization Initiative aims over the next decade to bring all languages online, create standard educational settings, and provide equal economic opportunities through resources developed according to a Language Technology Roadmap. A partnership with Proz.com was announced in February 2021.
