The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) functions as the national electricity utility, responsible for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the country's transmission and distribution network. It supplies power to customers on both islands through a single interconnected grid. Electricity is produced by independent power producers and fed into the national grid, with PowerGen contributing 1,344 MW, Trinity Power Ltd. 225 MW, and Trinidad Generation Unlimited 720 MW, all facilities powered by natural gas. Based in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, the commission operates within the oil and gas sector as the sole retailer of electricity for the country. Its customers are the island-wide electricity consumers who rely on a stable supply and a coordinated grid, supported by the involvement of independent power producers. In June 2023, T&TEC partnered with Nidco to provide guidance for full restoration, illustrating ongoing collaboration to maintain and improve infrastructure resilience.
