Tsawwassen First Nation is a Coast Salish nation governed within a government administration framework, with its land base in Tsawwassen, British Columbia. The 2009 Tsawwassen First Nation Final Agreement marked the first modern urban treaty to take effect in the province and the first to be negotiated through the BC Treaty Commission process. The nation later became the first First Nation to join Metro Vancouver, signaling closer integration with regional governance as part of a broader revival and renewal aimed at physical, economic and cultural growth for present and future generations. In January 2026 TFN announced infrastructure projects, including a modern sewage treatment plant that supports its development initiatives. In 2025 TFN partnered with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in the Pacific Region to ensure that the treaty provides meaningful opportunities to benefit from shared natural resources while maintaining conservation measures. The nation is also advancing its culture and language revitalization efforts through the Our Living Traditions Strategy, engaging external expertise to renew the ten-year plan.
