The Tubman African American Museum is a regional museum that collects and presents African American art, history, and culture, with the aim of educating the public and promoting harmony among all races. Located in Macon, Georgia, the institution traces its roots to the mid-1980s when community volunteers and supporters transformed a former warehouse into a dedicated space for African American heritage, named in honor of Harriet Tubman. The museum serves visitors seeking historical context, artistic expression, and cultural understanding, addressing the need for accessible, locally grounded exhibits and programs that illuminate Macon’s African American history. Over the years, it has expanded its mission and programming, including re-installations and new displays, and has engaged in partnerships and community initiatives that broaden its impact within the region.
