The Tufts Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning (UEP) is an academic unit within Tufts University that centers on translating planning, policy, justice, and sustainability into practice. For more than five decades, it has supported students, faculty, and the broader community in pursuing inclusive, just, and sustainable urban development. Based in Medford, Massachusetts, UEP operates as a small department within a large research university, with alumni working across government, nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, NGOs, and the private sector in the United States and internationally.

UEP offers four master’s degree programs, including an MA in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning (accredited in urban planning) with two years of full-time study, an MS in Environmental Policy and Planning, an MS in Sustainability, and a Master of Public Policy for mid-career professionals that can be completed in one year full-time or two years part-time. It also provides certificates in Geographic Information Science, Spatial Data Analytics, Impact and Sustainable Investing, Management of Community Organizations, and Community Environmental Studies. The department maintains partnerships and dual degree arrangements with other Tufts schools and with Boston College Law School and the School of Management.
