Tulsa Opera is a performing arts organization based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, that produces three grand operas per season and runs an extensive educational program. The company traces its origins to the Tulsa Opera Club, formed on December 1, 1948, which was renamed Tulsa Opera Incorporated in 1951 and then began presenting grand opera with Madama Butterfly in 1955. Mainstage productions are held at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, and Tulsa Youth Opera was inaugurated in 1997 as part of its education initiatives.
