Turk Kauffman Architecture is a full-service architecture and design firm. Turk Kauffman is a registered architect in the state of California and a member of the San Francisco chapter of the American Institute of Architects with over twenty-five years of architecture experience. Projects range from residential to commercial and institutional structures throughout Marin, the Bay Area and beyond. While welcoming jobs of all types and scales, the bulk of our work is adaptive reuse of existing buildings. We analyze spaces from the inside out, improving organization and versatility while keeping the footprint small. Other themes running through the body of work are outdoor living and art. Clients include non-profit nature preserves such as Audubon Canyon Ranch as well as artists and builders like Kevin Slagle who are active participants in the design process. Weaving sustainability and material ecology into every building, we work within the framework of the CalGreen building code, adopted in January 2011, or exceed its requirements. Seeking full-material disclosure of products allows us to employ even higher European Union standards and specify non-toxic materials. Additionally, we take electromagnetic radiation and radio frequencies from phones, computers, Smart Meters and other technology into consideration. As a general rule, Turk Kauffman Architecture practices the Precautionary Principle when approaching unregulated potential human/environmental hazards.
