TÜBİTAK SAGE is Turkey’s defense-focused research and development institute operating under TÜBİTAK. Founded in 1972 as Güdümlü Araçlar Teknolojisi ve Ölçüm Merkezi and renamed SAGE in 1988, the organization is based in Ankara in the Central Anatolia region and conducts activities across three campuses: Lalahan, Beşevler, and near the Middle East Technical University. Its mandate is to advance Turkey’s defense technology independence by delivering high-technology products and services to the national defense industry through research and development. It aims to create a strong scientific research environment within TÜBİTAK and to promote the use of national resources to strengthen domestic capabilities. The institute collaborates with the Turkish Armed Forces and other national defense organizations and engages with domestic and international partners to meet military and industry requirements as needed. Its work encompasses research, development, and the design of software and hardware, alongside testing, measurement, and advisory services that support capability-building in the defense sector. Historically, SAGE has focused on guided and unguided munitions and missile systems, contributing to the defense industry through products, knowledge, infrastructure, and a skilled workforce. Its clients include the Ministry of National Defense, the Turkish Armed Forces, the Defense Industry Presidency, and various defense-sector entities. Recent media reports indicate ongoing collaboration with ASELSAN, reflecting a broadened ecosystem for Turkey’s defense electronics.
