TÜBİTAK, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, is the country's leading agency for the management and conduct of scientific research. Founded in 1963, it operates autonomously under a Scientific Board drawn from universities, industry and research institutions, and serves as an adviser to the government on science and technology issues. Its mandate includes coordinating R&D in line with national priorities and developing scientific policies, supported by a network of institutes and programs. Based in Ankara, the organization supports research across universities and other public and private organizations, publishes journals and educational materials, and offers scholarships to students. A sizeable workforce operates across 15 institutes conducting contract and nationwide research, and recent reports indicate its SAGE division is developing a prototype for manoeuvring thrusters in collaboration with industry partners.
