The UCSF Division of Prevention Science in San Francisco coordinates a small team focused on prevention research across social, structural, physical, and mental health domains, with the aim of translating findings into health promotion. Within this division, the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies (CAPS) and the UCSF Prevention Research Center (PRC) conduct this work.

CAPS, established in 1986, is among the world’s largest centers focused on HIV research using social, behavioral, and policy science. Its mission is to end the HIV epidemic and reduce health and social disparities by conducting high-impact prevention science and by building capacity among researchers and communities. The UCSF Prevention Research Center sits within this framework, fostering collaboration among community groups, academic partners, and public health entities to design and execute HIV prevention research and promote evidence-based practices for people affected by HIV.
