Ulm University is a higher education and research institution based in Ulm, in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. Founded in 1967 as the youngest university in the state, it comprises four faculties: Engineering; Computer Sciences and Psychology; Mathematics and Economics; Medicine; and Natural Sciences. The university offers more than 60 study programmes in German and English and serves a student body of over ten thousand, combining rigorous instruction with international outlook. Its research program centers on twelve strategic, interdisciplinary themes addressing aging, sustainability, future technologies, and human health and well-being. The university has a track record of successful large-scale collaborations, including Collaborative Research Centres and a Cluster of Excellence. As a core part of Ulm's Science City, it collaborates with other universities, research institutes, hospitals, and technology companies; in 2026 it announced a molecular solar battery developed with Friedrich Schiller University Jena that stores photovoltaic energy and releases hydrogen on demand, including in darkness.
