Learning Empowered began as an outreach ministry of the United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, FL in 1975. Formerly known as UMCM Suncoast, the organization rebranded to Learning Empowered to convey to the community its true purpose and work: to empower people through education. Learning Empowered works with all members of the community to ensure they have the mechanisms needed to cope with and overcome the obstacles of trauma and poverty. To empower children and families with the foundational knowledge needed to become self-sustaining, positive members of the community with the skills needed for employability and lifelong educational success.
