The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is a regional arm of the United Nations focused on promoting economic and social development across its 54 member states in Africa. It conducts policy research, advocacy, capacity development, and advisory services to ground development efforts in objective evidence and to foster policy consensus and regional integration. ECA operates at regional and subregional levels to mobilize resources for Africa’s priorities, with a formal structure that includes divisions dedicated to macroeconomic policy, regional integration and trade, social policy development, and statistics, supported by a capacity development arm and administration.
