The United States Student Association is a national, student-led civic organization based in Washington, DC. Described as the country's oldest and largest of its kind, it focuses on cultivating current and future student leaders and elevating the student voice at local, state, and national levels. Founded in 1947, the organization pursues its mission by organizing grassroots networks to win tangible victories on student issues and by expanding access to higher education through education justice. Historically, USSA contributed to the creation of the Pell Grant, a program that now helps about 9 million students afford higher education. In March 2026, USSA partnered with the NAACP to organize a mass march and rally on Capitol Hill to advocate for the protection of public education, student aid programs, and civil rights enforcement in schools.
