United Way Passaic County is a nonprofit organization based in Paterson, New Jersey, serving communities across Passaic County. Its mission centers on mobilizing the caring power of the community to improve people’s lives. The organization focuses its work on three core areas: helping individuals achieve financial stability to reduce poverty, supporting children’s academic success, and promoting healthy living to lessen the impact of chronic disease. It pursues these goals through programs and partnerships that address the needs of residents in finances, education, and health. In early 2025, it opened a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site in Paterson to provide free tax preparation for low- and moderate-income households. The organization collaborates with local institutions, including Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Passaic County to develop school gardens at Moody Academy and four other Paterson schools, and with Paterson Public Schools to train Reading Buddies volunteers from Eastside High School for participating students.
