The Universidad Católica del Norte is a public-law higher education institution based in Antofagasta, in the Antofagasta Region of Chile. With about six decades of history, it sits among the country’s group of advanced universities within the national system and is rooted in Catholic principles expressed through Humanist Christian values. Its mission is the continuous search for truth aimed at contributing to the development of individuals, the broader society, and the community’s cultural heritage through teaching, research, and outreach. It was founded on May 31, 1956, through the efforts of Jesuit priests and benefactor Mrs. Berta González de Astorga, becoming the eighth university established in Chile and the third with a Catholic orientation. The institution offers education, research, and extension activities, serving a diverse student body and engaging in scholarly work for public benefit.
