UFMS is a federal public university based in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, providing higher education through a network of campuses and academic units. Its origins date to 1962 with the establishment of the Faculdade de Farmácia e Odontologia de Campo Grande, which laid the groundwork for public higher education in the southern region of the former state of Mato Grosso. Through the late 1960s and 1970s, the institution expanded with new departments and courses, including Medicine, and was federalized in 1979 under Federal Law 6.674, dated July 5, 1979. In addition to its Campo Grande campus, UFMS maintains multiple campuses across the region, hosting centers and institutes in biology, health sciences, humanities, and professional disciplines such as medicine, law, computing, dentistry, and engineering. The university serves a broad regional student body and conducts teaching, research, and public service across these locations.
