The Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II is a historic higher education institution based in Naples, Italy, founded in 1224 by an imperial charter issued by the Swabian emperor. It comprises four schools and 26 departments, organized across fields including Medicine, Agrarian and Veterinary Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Engineering and Basic Sciences. The university supports teaching through Federica, a digital learning platform with about 350 multidisciplinary MOOCs, and maintains a network of 52 research and service centers alongside two botanical gardens. It houses a substantial library system—108 libraries, including a virtual library—and a collection of museums focused on natural and agricultural sciences. The institution offers a broad academic portfolio, including undergraduate and graduate programs, postgraduate studies, and specialized training through its Scuole and the Scuola Superiore Meridionale (SSM). In 2025 it hosted notable academic events and was recognized with the Italian Excellence Award, reflecting its ongoing engagement with the broader scholarly community.
