Universiti Malaysia Kelantan or simply known as UMK is the19th Public Institution of Higher Education. Its establishment was announced during the tabling of the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP) by the Honorable Prime Minister of Malaysia. On 14 June 2006, the establishment is then approved in the Cabinet Meeting.
Universiti Malaysia Kelantan is the only full university that is placed in Kelantan Darul Naim. The Curriculum Philosophy of UMK is based on entrepreneurship education. Therefore stimulus phrases or tag-lines Entrepreneurial University and Entrepreneurship Is Our Thrust are widely used.
For short and medium terms, three (3) core areas of studies are given special emphasis:
* Business and Entrepreneurship,
* Creative Technology and Heritage and
* Agro-Industry and Natural Resources.
At the same time, the emphasis is also given to language and generic skills. All programs offered aim to produce human capital of high-quality (with first class mentality), complete with features of entrepreneurship. This human capital is used to enhance global welfare by giving attention to increasing the capacity and capability of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and contributing to high entrepreneurial community development. In all its implementations, information and communication technology (ICT) is used as an enabler.
