The University of Arkansas is a public, flagship land-grant research university based in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It offers undergraduate and graduate programs across more than 200 academic programs and comprises ten colleges and schools. Recognized by the Carnegie Foundation as an R1 institution with the highest level of research activity, it is also ranked among the top American public research universities by U.S. News & World Report. The university maintains a low student-to-faculty ratio to support close mentoring and traces its history to its founding in 1871. As a major public research university and the flagship campus of the U of A System, it contributes more than $2.2 billion in economic impact to Arkansas. In June 2026, the university announced the appointment of James C. Stevens as the next dean of the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design.
