The University of California Press is a nonprofit scholarly publisher that functions as the publishing arm of the University of California system, based in Oakland, California. It publishes books and journals across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, collaborating with scholars, librarians, authors, and students to meet current knowledge demands. Each year it releases roughly 175 new books and 30 multi-issue journals and maintains more than 4,000 titles in print, while supporting open access initiatives through Luminos and publishing journals such as Elementa: Science of the Anthropocene and Collabra: Psychology. The press serves a scholarly audience, with a substantial share of its authors affiliated with the University of California. In February 2026, Wiley Publishing announced a partnership with UC Press to expand its journal portfolios.
