The University of Latvia (UL) is a higher education institution located at 19 Raina Bulvaris in Riga, Latvia. Founded on 28 September 1919, it is described as the sole classical university in Latvia and plays a leading role in developing the national education system and broader society and economy. UL operates across six faculties, seven regional branches, and three colleges, offering more than 100 study programmes and enrolling more than 15,000 students; the university employs between 1,001 and 5,000 staff. The university is expanding its academic infrastructure with the Academic Centre in Torņakalns, intended to be one of the most modern study and research facilities in Northern Europe; within it, the House of Nature and House of Science host the faculties of natural sciences, medicine and health sciences, while the House of Letters will open for social sciences, humanities and computer sciences. Recent initiatives include a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Copenhagen on quantum information science and the development of an AI-based student learning support tool in collaboration with StudyStash. UL has engaged in international rankings and conferences, such as participation in QS Rankings Europe 2026 and attendance at the 84th International Scientific Conference in 2026 with the theme of the University of the Future: Impact-Driven Leadership.
