More than 40 years ago, our local health system and a group of physicians laid the foundation for a health plan that would eventually provide quality health care to thousands of members in mid-Michigan and beyond.  University of Michigan Health Plan (UM Health Plan), has proudly helped individuals, families, and employer groups access the care they need to live their best lives.  

We believe our plans and our people have made a positive impact on the communities we serve. But like many health plans, UM Health Plan has experienced significant financial losses over the past few years. Despite efforts to maintain the plan, a variety of factors have made it unsustainable to continue offering the high level of service our members deserve. 

Therefore, all coverage through UM Health Plan ends on January 31, 2026.
