The University of Portland is a higher education institution located in Portland, Oregon. It was founded in 1901 by Archbishop Alexander Christie with support from the Congregation of Holy Cross, and over time the school changed its name from Columbia University to the University of Portland, while governance shifted to an independent board in 1967 and the Congregation continued to guide the university. It uniquely offers a College of Arts and Sciences, a graduate school, and nationally accredited programs in business, education, engineering, and nursing. The university has received recognitions such as being named a Green College by The Princeton Review in 2013 and ranking among top western regional universities in U.S. News. In 2026, University of Portland joined CampusESP in a partnership to beta test its Family AI Assistant with a group of colleges, including UP, to refine the experience through direct user feedback.
