Founded in 1970, the University Press of New England (UPNE) is a book and periodical publisher in the New England region, supported by a consortium of member institutions including Brandeis University and Dartmouth College. It publishes scholarly, instructional, reference, literary and artistic, and general-interest titles, with many works issued in cooperation with member institutions under joint imprints. Since 2014, UPNE has operated the ForeEdge imprint for national general-interest titles, while regional works appear under the UPNE imprint; the press publishes about 60 titles annually and distributes roughly 140 more through its Book Partners program. Its publishing program emphasizes the humanities, liberal arts, fine and performing arts, literature, New England culture, and interdisciplinary studies. Based in Lebanon, New Hampshire, in the New England region, UPNE maintains a small professional staff overseeing editorial, design and production, marketing and sales, order fulfillment, and business operations.
